Accident on U.S. 69 kills four family members from Texas

PLEASANTON – Four members of a family from Texas were killed in one-vehicle accident shortly after 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 18. The accident occurred just south of Trading Post on U.S. Highway 69 nearly two miles south of the Kansas Highway 52 intersection.


According to the Kansas Highway Patrol report, Larry L. Klingensmith, 66, was driving a 2019 Dodge Ram northbound when the vehicle struck an icy patch on the roadway. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it went into the ditch on the east side of the road. The vehicle then rolled twice and entering a flooded wildlife area where it submerged on its top.


Passengers in the vehicle included Kimberly A. Klingensmith, 65; Karly A. Klingensmith, 32; and Nicolas L. Klingensmith, 36. All of the people in the vehicle died at the scene, and they all were from Winnsboro, Texas.
