Ambulance, fire department reports for week ending July 1

MOUND CITY – On Monday, July 3, the Linn County Commission heard reports from the ambulance service and fire department.

American Medical Response, (AMR) Operations Manager Galen Anderson reported that the month of June was quite a bit higher volume than previous months with 78 transports. He said that in the last seven days there were 15 transports.

Anderson told the commissioners that AMR was still recruiting for one paramedic opening and two emergency medical technicians (EMTs) openings.

Fire Chief Randy Hegwald reported that there had been 10 incidents over the last seven days, and that brings the yearly total to 229. The 10 incidents included two medical assists, two motor vehicle accidents with injuries, one service call, one unauthorized burning, one dispatched and canceled en route, one detector activation no fire, one brush or brush-and-grass fire mixture, and one outside rubbish fire.

Hegwald said that his department was only about 50% staffed right now at most stations, so they have been trying to catch community events for recruiting.
