Area runners make their mark at Central Heights invitational

The Prairie View girls varsity cross country team took first place at the Central Heights invitational meet on Thursday, Sept. 30. In the process, the first-place finisher broke the girls school record for the 5K event.


Runners from Jayhawk-Linn and Pleasanton also competed at the meet with a Jayhawk boys competitor turning in a top-10 finish.


The Prairie View girls team placed first with an average time of 22:36.14 for its six-member team. Meet host Central Heights girls team came in second with an average time of 24:10.98.


Prairie View’s Bree Allen, a freshman, won the meet and set a new school record by turning in a 19:15.91 time. The time was enough to best the former record set by her older sister, Brooke Allen, who graduated in 2020 and now runs for Baker University.


Allen’s teammates weren’t far behind, with freshmen Wylie Teagarden placing fourth; Ryleigh Leuker, 10th; Kally Stroup, 11th; sophomore Kelsie Konitzer, 16th; and senior Jessica Petric placing 18th.


Jayhawk-Linn’s Marissa Batcheler, a junior, finished first for her team with a 15th place finish. Her teammate junior Cynthia Cazares placed 20th, sophomore Adison Randall was 22nd, and freshman Brylee Doleshal was 28th.


In the junior varsity girls race, Prairie View’s Ella McCammon placed first, Ashlyn Kennedy was second, Alyssa Page was sixth, Quinn Browning was seventh, and Breanna Rhynerson was eighth.

In the varsity boys race, Jayhawk’s Dakota Wallace placed ninth with a time of 19:07.34. His teammate Dillon Champlin placed 13th, and Colton Wallace was 45th.


Prairie View’s Alex Petty placed 41st, and teammate Donovan Law was 48th.


Pleasanton’s Doniphan Meik, a sophomore, placed 43rd.


In the boys junior varsity race, Jayhawk’s Chance Profitt took first place.


Prairie View’s Harvey Guerrrero placed second, Coltaun Bartlett was 10th, and Creed Caldwell was 11th.
