MOUND CITY – A burn ban will began Tuesday, Dec. 15, because of high winds forecast over the next few days.
Linn County Emergency Management Director Doug Barlet told the commissioners on Monday, Dec. 13, that the winds on Wednesday are expected to be in the 40-mile-per-hour range with gusts up to 60 miles per hour between From 9 a.m. to midnight.
There is also a chance that those winds could be in excess of 60 miles per hour for a sustained period of time, he added.
In a later phone call, Barlet said that on Tuesday, the wind is predicted to be 25 to 30 miles per hour. Barlet said that any fires started on Tuesday could restart on Wednesday with those windy conditions.
