COFFEYVILLE — Coffeyville Community College is mourning the loss of a freshman student athlete.
Marlon Thornburg, CCC president, said Otis Jacobs IV of La Cygne, died Wednesday night.
Jacobs was a member of the CCC football team.
“Our hearts go out to the Jacobs family and the many friends Otis had at CCC. In his short time on campus, we could see the passion he had both academically and athletically to prepare himself for the future,” said Thornburg. “Mr. Jacobs will be greatly missed by the Red Raven family.”
Coffeyville Community College students, faculty and staff held a candlelight vigil for Otis on Wednesday night.
Four County Mental Health Center’s professional counselors have been brought in to assist students, faculty and staff through this mourning process.
“We are working with the family of Mr. Jacobs in this time of immense sadness,” said Thornburg.
CCC head football coach Jeff Leiker said the remainder of the season will be devoted in Jacob’s honor.
“Otis was new to the team but we were looking forward to helping him grow and develop his skills both in the classroom and on the field,” he said.
Leiker also said Jacobs will forever be a member of the Red Raven family and will continue to make a difference as his family has made the decision to donate his organs, thus saving the lives of many others.
