Commission appoints new assistant fire chief
MOUND CITY – Linn County Fire Chief Randy Hegwald recommended on Monday, May 8, that the Linn County Commission hire Brian Shroyer as the new assistant fire chief/maintenance technician position. The commissioners approved hiring him as an exempt employee at the salary of $46,215 annually.
Hegwald said that Shroyer, who serves as a volunteer firefighter, will be supervising the maintenance of all the equipment. Currently, the county is paying an out-of-county contractor for that service.
Shroyer will be certified in self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) maintenance and be part of the fire extinguisher servicing
County Counselor Gary Thompson pointed out that Shroyer’s duties are primarily supervisory, supervising maintenance, supervising the other programs and he is supervisory in being on-site chief.
Hegwald said that if Shroyer responds to a fire scene, he will take the supervisory instant command of that.
Hegwald reported that last week the fire department had four calls bringing the yearly total to 162. The numbers in his report showed that one call was a motor vehicle incident with injury, one was a motor vehicle accident with no injuries, one authorized controlled burning and one smoke scare, odor of smoke.
