MOUND CITY – On Monday, Dec. 6, Linn County Commissioners voted on a resolution to extend the moratorium on wind energy production until the county decides to act to end it. The present moratorium was about to expire.
Linn County Counselor Gary Thompson said that the resolution says that because the county has not completed its comprehensive plan and the revision of regulations yet, the county needs to continue the moratorium until those have been completed.
Thompson said the moratorium could be ended by the commission whenever the comprehensive plan and the regulations are completed.
The original moratorium was placed into effect a couple of years ago after a previous commission learned that some landowners in the southern portion of the county had signed contracts with a corporation that has placed wind generators in counties to the south and west of Linn County.
