MOUND CITY – On Monday, Nov. 8, the Linn County Commissioners met with Linn County Rural Water District No. 1 (RWD #1) representative Mike Ernst about the old state building on the east side of La Cygne.
The building was given to the county and RWD #1 for their use until they ceased to use it.
The county has used the building in the past for storage and has shared it with RWD #1. At one time, the county thought about making it an ambulance barn, but had decided against it.
County Counselor Gary Thompson said that the building was owned outright by Linn County. However, when the county ceases to use it, they can give up the right and let RWD #1 have it.
Thompson said he could make a quit claim deed to transfer the ownership of the building. The commissioners approved the transfer.
Ernst said that the RWD #1 plan for the building was to put insulation and siding on the outside of the building to make it look better and to put on solar panels to save on electric costs. They plan on adding another bigger bay on the west side for the water district’s backhoe.
