MOUND CITY – The Linn County Commission on Monday, Aug. 16, approved waiving dumping fees at the county’s construction/demolition landfill for two locations in the county.

Linn County Public Works Administrator Shaun West said that locations in Parker and La Cygne had the endorsement of the cities.

The Parker location at 325 West Main was a dilapidated former church building that was purchased by a neighbor.

In La Cygne, the location was an unoccupied home with structural damage at 210 Third St.

Linn County Commissioner Danny McCullough asked why they were wanting the county to reduce the fees for private property.

Linn County Counselor Gary Thompson answered that the county policy says that if a city endorses waiving the fees, the county will do so.

“Typically what we are doing is saving the cities from having to go in and condemn the places later,” said Thompson.
