PITTSBURG – COVID-19 vaccine booster shots are now available by appointment at all Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas (CHC/SEK) locations, including those in La Cygne, Pleasanton and Mound City.
Available data shows that all three of the COVID-19 vaccines approved or authorized in the United States continue to be highly effective in reducing risk of severe disease, hospitalization and death, according to press release by company spokesman Robert Poole.
After submitting your request for a COVID-19 booster or a first shot, a scheduler will reach out to you to confirm an appointment.
Vaccine recipients who received a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine who are eligible for a booster shot at six months or more after their initial series include
people aged 65 years and older regardless of a medical condition;
residents 18 and older in long-term care settings;
people aged 18 and older with underlying medical conditions; and
people aged 18 and older who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting based on their individual benefits and risks.
A list of underling conditions can be seen at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/people-with-medical-conditions.html#Actions
Booster shots are also recommended for people who are 18 and older who received the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine two or more months ago.
The COVID-19 booster does not need to match the recipient's initial vaccinations, says the CDC. People may choose which booster shot to take (subject to vaccine availability) according to the CDC, and CHC/SEK currently has all three vaccines available.
First dose COVID-19 vaccines are also available by appointment at all CHC/SEK locations. There is no out-of- pocket expense to any COVID-19 vaccine recipient at CHC/SEK.
Vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself and reduce the spread of the virus and help prevent new variants from emerging, according to Poole.
