PARKER – In a press release on Wednesday, Sept. 7, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office identified the body found near a rental storage facility in Parker on Sunday.

Linn County Sheriff Kevin Friend said the deceased white man was 32-year-old Austin B. Mebane from the Kansas City, Mo., area. Friend said that test results revealed that Mebane died of a drug overdose.

The release said that Mebane was familiar with the Parker area and had lived in the area at times.

The sheriff’s office received a call late Sunday morning with the report that a man had been found lying in the grass near the storage facility at 301 Catalpa Ave., just east of the Diversified Supply lumber yard.

Once the responding deputy found the body, detectives were called to process the scene and interview neighbors and other people in the area.

There has been some speculation that Mebane’s body was moved to the site where he was found after he had died, however, that has not been confirmed by the sheriff’s office.

Friend said that Mebane’s next of kin had been notified. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Mebane,” he said.

Those persons who might have information about the incident are asked to call the Linn County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau at (913) 795-2665.
