Experienced air controller appointed to airport board

Updated: Feb 1

MOUND CITY – On Tuesday, Jan. 18, the Linn County Commissioners appointed a new member to the airport committee and appointed a new member to the Lincoln Township Board.

Commissioner Rick James said that he had visited with other airport committee members, and he was recommending Sindi Bodine, Mound City, as a new member to the airport committee. According to James, Bodine has 30 years experience as an air traffic controller in three different states and she is also a former Air Force mechanic.

Commissioners approved her appointment.

They also accepted the resignation of Mike Van Vlack as trustee of Lincoln Township and appointed him as clerk to replace Joe Turpen, who passed away in December. They then appointed Bryan Turpen as trustee to the board. Mindy Thayer retained her position as township treasurer.

James asked County Clerk David Lamb to send the state statute numbers governing township boards to the Lincoln Township Board, because they were unfamiliar with the statutes. Lamb said that he had a pamphlet on the duties of townships he could send them.
