Fire department, ambulance company give reports

MOUND CITY – The Linn County Commissioners heard reports from the fire department and American Medical Response (AMR) on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Linn County Clerk David Lamb read the emailed report from Linn County Fire Chief Doug Barlet who was at home recovering from an injury. Barlet’s report said that there were 15 total calls from Jan. 1 to Jan. 17.

Four calls were dispatched and cancelled enroute, three building fires, two brush fires, two motor vehicle with injury accidents, two aircraft standby, one grass fire, and one smoke scare.

After the original report, Barlet wrote that there were two more calls but were cancelled before the firefighters reached the station, another motor vehicle accident that turned out to be in Bourbon County, and one landing zone.

AMR representative Louis Aloi said that it had been a slow weekend and uneventful week. He said there had been 21 calls and 10 transports which was significantly lower than pre-Covid numbers.

When Commission Chair Jim Johnson asked if everyone was staying healthy, Aloi said that everyone has had COVID-19 and almost all of the crew had received the vaccine. There are one or two holdouts for the shots, but they are waiting to see what the final decision on the federal vaccination mandate will be.
