Fireworks, live band featured at La Cygne's Swanfest/Blast in the Park on Saturday

Updated: Jul 11

The Independence Day celebrations continue this Saturday, July 9, with La Cygne’s Swanfest and Blast in the Park. An evening of live music, games and activities for kids, craft and vendor booths, and a cake walk will be capped off with a fireworks show at dusk.

Activities get under way at the La Cygne City Park when craft and vendor booths open up at 6 p.m. Booths will be open throughout the evening.

La Cygne City Clerk Jodi Wade said that two or three food vendors will be at the event. Other vendors include artisans selling their crafts as well as informational booths by several businesses.

She also said that she expected political candidates to be on hand to discuss issues one-to-one.

At 7 p.m., Sparrowfoot, a rock band from Adrian, Mo., will begin a two-hour set.

Then at dusk, the real fireworks begin. Representatives from Greenwood, Mo.-based Wald and Co. will be masters of pyrotechnics for the evening.

Wade said that volunteers are needed to help clean up the park the following day. Depending on the direction of the wind, some of the fireworks fallout could land in the swimming pool.

To volunteer to help clean up, call La Cygne City Hall at (913) 757-2144.
