First responders extricate man from pickup following accident

MOUND CITY – First responders were forced to extricate a 52-year-old rural Mound City man about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday after the pickup he was driving left the road and struck several trees.


Vincent Votaw of rural Mound City was the driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado traveling southbound on Kansas Highway 7 just south of Nickel Road when the accident occurred.


The vehicle left the road off to the right, went into the ditch, and struck several trees, according to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office report. The entire truck was damaged according to the deputy making the report.


Votaw was transported by ambulance to Miami County Medical Center in Paola following the accident. The deputy indicated he suspected alcohol use and Votaw agreed to a blood test, but results were not expected back for several days.
