Blu-Jays upset Central Heights
Blu-Jay football team had a convincing win over Central Heights on Friday, Oct. 22, knocking off the Vikings, 20-7. The win gave credence to Pleasanton head coach Caleb Hendricks' observation that the Blu-jays were beginning to click on both offense and defense late in the season.
Central Heights, now 4-3 for the season, is the second Flint Hills League that Pleasanton has beat in the past few weeks. The Blu-Jays, now 2-5, soundly beat Northern Heights 67-16 at home on Oct. 8.
Pleasanton will host Valley Heights, 3-4, in the first round of the playoffs this Friday. That team is from Blue Rapids, which is north of Manhattan. The game starts at 6 p.m., an hour earlier than usual.
Jayhawks get ruffled by Tornadoes
Although the Jayhawk-Linn football team won convincing against West Franklin a week earlier, it couldn’t keep the momentum going against a tough Eureka team on Friday, Oct. 22. The Tornadoes went to the air often to win at home 32-8.
Eureka, now 5-3, gained 258 yards of a total 383 yards offense in the air. All of the Jayhawks’ 169 yards was rushing. Turnovers and difficulty in making third-down conversions against a solid defense hampered the Jayhawks.
Out of the playoff bracket now, the Jayhawks will play their final game of the season away against Fredonia this Friday, Oct. 29.
