Grant to Pleasanton library to help young readers' skills

Updated: Dec 30, 2021

PLEASANTON – The Pleasanton Lincoln Library has been awarded a grant from the Southeast Kansas Library System to develop a collection of books for young readers to help develop their reading skills.

Pleasanton library director Wendy Morlan said the leveled-reader books encouraged young readers to track through and increase their reading skills by reading increasingly more difficult books. The hardcover books are expensive, and the cost of the collection was almost $800.

Sharon Moreland, director of the regional library system, said members of the application review committee for the grant were impressed with the overall quality of the library’s application.

"Pleasanton Lincoln Library is very pleased to accept this Collection Development grant from our Southeast Kansas Library District,” said Wendy Morlan, director of the Pleasanton Lincoln Library. “The grant amount will allow us to grow our small collection of Leveled Reader books for children wanting to increase their reading skills."
