Health department director outlines summer events


MOUND CITY – On Monday, April 25, Linn County Health Department Director Missy Lancaster updated the Linn County Commission on upcoming activities and promotions at the health department.


Lancaster told the commissioners that May 17 was World Hypertension Day. The health department will be taking blood pressures that day on a walk-in basis and there will be a drawing for two automatic blood pressure cuffs.

On June 3, there will be a bicycle rodeo for World Bicycle Day. The department will be giving away some helmets and bikes, said Lancaster.


Dads, Diapers and Donuts Day will be held on June 17. It is a promotion for new dads to show them newborn care. Diapers will be given away

On June 21 the health department will be celebrating National Yoga Day with kids, Lancaster said.


June 24 is the Community Baby Shower and Kids Health and Safety Fair.


Tuesdays and Thursdays will be Friends, Fun and Fitness with the kids.


Free pool days will be held at the La Cygne Pool on July 8 and at Pleasanton on July 15 to promote sun safety and sunscreen use. The health department will be paying

the entry fee for anyone going to the pools those days.

Lancaster said that since the number of COVID cases has lessened, the health department was trying to get back out and get their regular events going again.

She also reported that the health department had applied for and received a $1,500 grant from Walmart that will be used for the kids’ health and safety fair.
