MOUND CITY – Linn County Sheriff Kevin Friend announced earlier this month the his office has established a partnership with the Jayhawk-Linn horticulture class to make improvements around the new Justice Center.

Friend met with members of the class on Sept. 8, to begin planning those improvements. The horticulture class and other classes with Jayhawk-Linn will be doing some projects at the Justice Center to beautify and enhance the facility, he said in a release.

“As part of their class they will design, build, and install some pops of color, vegetation, and small structures to brighten the appearance of the facility,” Friend said. “They will also be presented with a budget challenge for their project and manage the financial planning for the project.

“I am terribly proud of our young citizens for stepping up to this challenge. Our youth are the future of Linn County, and we are happy to assist them in kicking off their abilities to develop their skills through artistic design right here at home.”

This project will take place over the 2022-2023 school year. He anticipates that the planning will take place this fall semester with plantings being made next spring.
