LA CYGNE – With top-12 finishes by seniors Cynthia Cazares, Marissa Batcheler, and Madeline Batcheler and strong races by other members of the team, the Jayhawk women’s cross-county team took third place last Thursday, Sept. 22, at Prairie View.

Cazares ran the race in a time of 22:49.56, good enough for an eighth-place finish. She was closely followed by the Batcheler twins, with Marissa placing 11th and Madeline at 12th.

Adison Randall took 22nd place, and Gia Schneider was 27th. The team had a combined time of 1:59:54.06 and an average time of 23:58.82.

While the Jayhawk men didn’t have enough runners for a team score, Dakota Wallace took a fifth-place finish with a time of 18:49.46. Teammate Dillon Champlin was close behind in seventh with a time of 19:05.43.

In the men’s junior varsity 5K, James Spitzenberger placed third with a time of 21:2:52, and William Lloyd clocked 22:10.45 for seventh place. Felix Lucas placed 31st. There were no Jayhawk runners in the junior varsity women’s race.

Jayhawk runners will compete at the Central Heights meet this Thursday.
