The Jayhawk-Linn football team will be facing another tough opponent this week as it travels to Humboldt following a home loss to Osage City. The loss last Friday, Oct. 1, dropped the Hawks to a 1-3 record,. The Humboldt Cubs are 4-1 so far this season.
Osage City, which went to 5-0 after last Friday’s game, scored early in the game against the Hawks, running the score up to 28-0 before the Hawks could respond. But with time running out in the first quarter, a 1-yard run by Trace Compton got the home team on the board, 28-6.
Early in the second quarter with the Hawks inside the red zone, Compton again scored on a 1-yard run. The Hawks made the 2-point conversion, making the score 35-14.
But the perennially tough Osage City team proved to be too much, and the Indians churned out several more touchdowns giving them an 63-14 lead at halftime.
The remainder of the game remained scoreless until the final seconds of play when the Hawk’s Bryton Spencer skirted Osage City defenders for a 64-yard touchdown run. In a game that gave Jayhawk fans little to cheer about, the explosive run brought the crowd to its feet.
With no time left on the clock, the 2-point conversion by Ryan Broyles was good, and the final score was 63-22.
