MOUND CITY – On Monday, April 19, Linn County Economic Development Director Jessica Hightower announced the Youth Employee Grants awarded to Linn County businesses. Ten businesses were awarded $1,200 for employing Linn County youth during the summer by the Linn County Economic Development Committee.
The businesses are:
Avery Lumber, Mound City
Coleman Hardware, Mound City
D & L Services, Mound City
Dreamscape Innovations, Mound City
Loma Land and Cattle, La Cygne
Netherfield Natural Farm, Fontana
Stainbrook’s Auto, Farm and Feed, La Cygne
Peoples Telecommunications, La Cygne
Umphenour Farms, Pleasanton
Wade Remodeling, Prescott
Those 10 businesses have agreed to hire a Linn County youth between 16 and 21 years old by May 15. The county agrees to reimburse 10 weeks of summer pay up to 30 hours per week at $4 per hour. The businesses are required to pay at least $8 per hour and they can pay more than that if they wish.
Two businesses, Double K Construction of Mound City and Barker’s Corner Automotive of La Cygne, were chosen as alternate recipients if one of the other businesses cannot fill their position by May 15. Eighteen businesses applied with a total of 29 positions.
