Local poets read first-place works at Mound City Library

MOUND CITY – Winners of the Mound City Library's poetry contest read from their works on Thursday, June 23. The library ran the contest during April, National Poetry Month.


Winners included Jeanne Ray of rural Parker in the adult division, Haley Ryan in the teen division and Adalae Bielenberg in the children's division.


Other events taking place at the library included a presentation by the Linn County Health Department on fireworks safety last week.


Frannie Eastwood with the Marais des Cygnes Extension Service has also been working with young cooks in the "Cooking with Cool Kids" series of workshops.


This Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the library will sponsor a writing workshop with Jayhawk-Linn High School language arts teacher Courtenay Slinkard and Grace Willis.
