United Way 2-1-1 services provide access to resources near you, including food, housing, shelter, clothing and utility assistance. It is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Caring, professional people who have access to a database of information across the United States provide the service. The service is free and completely confidential.
When a person calls for assistance, the first thing worker does is ask for a Zip code, and what kind of help is being sought. If there is nothing under that Zip code, they are very willing to look for help in areas nearby.
Other services they can connect with are transportation, community health services, employment, financial assistance programs, transportation and many more.
One community navigator, Diane Davis, said that depending on what is entered in the database in your area, they can help with finding a person a vehicle or help with mowing lawns.
Davis said that 400 to 500 calls were average in her area. Some slower days they may receive 350 calls for assistance.
