Pleasanton USD 344 developing construction program for county schools

Updated: Sep 14, 2021

PLEASANTON – Although details are not quite ironed out yet, Pleasanton USD 344 is making progress on plans to develop a construction training facility that will serve all three school districts in Linn County.

Travis Laver, Pleasanton superintendent, said that Fort Scott Community College is also involved in the project along with Prairie View USD 362 and Jayhawk USD 346. In addition to training high school and community college students, the program could also train adults, he said.

The training would focus on the usual construction trades, but it also could include heavy equipment operation.

Discussion about the proposed program surfaced during the the Prairie View Board of Education meeting on Monday, Aug. 9, when board members pressed Superintendent Rex Bollinger about details. Bollinger said that he would rather send students to the Pleasanton program instead of Garnett, where they now learn trades.

Laver said he is in the process of negotiating on a site for the program.
