Prairie View women take first place at Ramsey Invitational

LA CYGNE – As has happened for the last two women’s cross country races this season, Prairie View sophomore Bree Allen crossed the finish line alone taking another first place finish in the process last Thursday, Sept. 22.


This time, though, it was the Ramsey Invitational, Prairie View’s home meet named for former long-time cross country coach Daryl Ramsey. Ramsey was on hand to watch the race and see the Buffalo women earn the first place trophy.

Allen finished the 5 kilometer race with a time of 20:00.94, more than 1:20 ahead of second-place runner Emma Vohs of Louisburg. However, following third- and fourth-place finishes by Louisburg runners, Prairie View’s Wylie Teagarden, also a sophomore, took fifth place with a time of 22:27.16.


Prairie View’s Kelsey Konitzer came in ninth place with a time of 22:56.25. Ryleigh Lueker and Kally Stroup finished 14th and 15th respectively, and Ella McCammon placed 29th.

The Lady Buffalos had a total time of 1:52:48,17, with an average time of 22:33.64 and 44 points. Prairie View edged out the Louisburg team which had a total time of 1:54:11.12, with an average time of 22:50.23 and 44 points. The Jayhawk-Linn girls runners placed third with an average time of 23:58.82.

In the men’s junior varsity race, Harvey Hernandez-Guerrero placed 12th with a time of 22:47.01. Hernandez-Guerrero is the sole male runner on Prairie View’s high school team this year.


In the women’s junior varsity 5K race, Prairie View’s Ella Steinle placed eighth with a time of 26:58.01. Quinn Browning took 12th place, Breanna Rhynerson was 19th and Reagan McCarthy was 20th.


The Prairie View team competes at Central Heights this Thursday, Sept. 29.
