Recycling so far in 2022 adds nearly $11,000 to county coffers

MOUND CITY – On Monday, August 8, the Linn County Commissioners reviewed the income from the county’s recycling. Commissioner Rick James had requested the figures last week.

Economic Development Director Jessica Hightower passed out the report for recycling for the first two quarters of 2022.

The report showed that the county had received $10,765 from selling recyclables in the first six months of 2022. The county sold:

  • 52.385 tons of shredded metal for $8,456,

  • 1,540 pounds of aluminum cans for $839,

  • 9.215 tons of cardboard for $1,244,

  • 2.705 tons of magazines for $162, and

  • 4.25 tons of glass for $64.
