Sustained winds take down trees, power lines

Sustained high winds on Wednesday, Dec. 15, approached hurricane velocity, causing damage to trees, disrupting electrical service in some areas and damaging siding on residences.

However, both Linn County Sheriff Kevin Friend and county Fire Chief Doug Barlet said they had received no reports of significant damage as of Thursday morning.

Power went out to more than 700 Evergy customers in the Pleasanton area on Wednesday afternoon and remained off overnight. Crews from the utility arrived to restore power on Thursday morning.

Heartland Electric Cooperative reported no power outages to customers in Linn County.
