Swimming pools in both La Cygne and Pleasanton are set to open for the summer season in the next few days.
The La Cygne pool will open this Saturday, May 28, at noon for the Memorial Day weekend. The daily hours of the pool throughout the summer will be noon to 6 p.m. The last day the pool will be open is Aug. 14. The pool is located at 520 S. First St. in the La Cygne Community Park.
The Pleasanton pool will open on Wednesday, June 1, at noon. The normal pool hours will be noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, however, if there are no pool parties scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, it will be open until 8 p.m. on those evenings.
The Pleasanton pool is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays this year because of a lifeguard shortage. The pool is located at 504 W. 15th St.
The ribbon-cutting on Mound City’s new splash park was anticipated for this weekend as well, however, supply-line issues continue to push opening day back. City officials are still unsure when it will open, and no more details are available yet.
The cost to swim at the La Cygne pool starts at $3 a day for children 5 to 12 (kids 4 and younger are free), $4 for swimmers age 13 to 59, and $1 a day for those 60 and older. Season passes start at $60 for individuals and range up to $110 for a family of four with an additional $15 for each additional family member. However, the family group rate is limited to two adults and up to five children.
The cost to swim at the Pleasanton pool ranges from a $1.50 for children 4 to 17 (3 and younger are free), to $2 for swimmers 18 and older, and $1.25 for those 60 and older. Season passes for one person are $35 and range up to $120 for a family of 8. Single season passes for those 60 and older is $30, and the pool offers a season pass for daycare providers for $120.
Both pools offer swimming classes as well as water aerobic classes. Call the pool offices for details.

Both pools also offer options for pool parties. Those wanting to rent the La Cygne pool have Monday through Friday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m,. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to noon and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. as options. The cost for parties begins at $50 an hour for up to 25 people and ranges up to $90 per hour for up to 125 people.
The cost to rent the Pleasanton pool for a party is $65 an hour.
