SALINA – After the first day of the girls state wrestling tourney, two wrestlers from Prairie View have reached the championship round, and a third will be competing for third place. Despite having only three girls in the state meet – compared to as many as six wrestlers for other teams – the Lady Buffalos team were in second place in team competition after the first day.

Senior Alyssa Page, wrestling in the 155-pound class with a 32-3 record, won her first three matches on pins, beating Jewelia Cokeley of Douglass in the semifinal round. She will take on Allison King of Oskaloosa in the championship match on Thursday.

Kylee Eastwood, top, and Brooklyne Page of Rose Hill prepare to resume their match after some instructions from the referee. Eastwood went on to win the match by decision.

In the 170-pound class, Kylee Eastwood worked her way through two opponents in preliminary rounds, and won the semifinal match against Brooklynne Page of Rose Hill on a 4-2 decision. Eastwood, with a 32-5 record, will square off against Grace Johns of Chapman in the championship match on Thursday.

Whitley Cox-Halliburton, a sophomore with a 13-7 record, is the first Prairie View girl wrestler to be assured of winning two state medals after successful trips to state both this year and last year. Although she was pinned by Averie Burns of Wellsville in the semifinal round, she will be wrestling for third place on Thursday.
