LA CYGNE – The city of La Cygne will donate $500 towards the purchase of food for the annual La Cygne Community Thanksgiving Dinner. The dinner will again this year be hosted by the La Cygne Christian Church at 406 N. Broadway, Nov. 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The dinner, which began in the early 2000s, first was served at the La Cygne Elementary School and was then moved to the La Cygne Library. The dinner is served without charge to everyone in the community.
Using La Cygne Christian Church as a venue, other churches in the area contribute to the annual event.
The decision for the city to donate to the meal came during a special meeting on Thursday, Nov. 2, after the council’s regular meeting time the night before was cancelled for lack of a quorum of members.
In addition to approving the dinner donation, the council approved paying Hofer and Hofer, the contractor on the fire station project, about $237,700 for work completed so far.
The council also voted to publish an amendment to the 2023 budget for the general bond and interest fund and the solid waste fund. The amendment calls for the transfer of money in the general bond/interest fund to the water fund. The solid waste fund was increased because of growth in the customer base for that area.
