County health department plans special events this summer

Updated: Jul 2, 2021

A community baby shower, a family movie presentation, free sports physicals and immunization and more, the staff of the Linn County Health Department has a host of programs it is conducting this summer. Those programs will be at various locations across the county.

Here are some of the special events the department is sponsoring:

  • July 14 – Pelvic Health Physical Therapy class, 4:30 p.m. at the Linn County Annex in Mound City.

  • July 15 – Summer Family Movie Escape, 1 p.m. at Blue Moon in Blue Mound. The movie is “Matilda.”

  • July 21 – Community Baby Shower and Touch a Truck, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mound City. This is for expectant mothers and their young family members.

  • July 23 and July 27 – Free, walk-in school sports physicals and immunizations clinic, 8:30 to 2 p.m. at the health department’s office at 11240 Tucker Rd. in Pleasanton.

  • August 3 – To celebrate August as Breastfeeding Month, the staff will host a Breastfeeding Brunch, 10 a.m. at the department’s office in Pleasanton. The brunch is for current or past breastfeeding moms.

  • August 5 – A back-to-school brunch will be conducted for school nurses. That brunch will be used to set up clinics at the schools for the coming school year.

  • August 6 through 14 – The department will have a booth at the Linn County Fair. Staff members will be on hand to give vaccinations and talk to fairgoers about the programs the department offers. The booth will also have a changing room for families with very young children.

The department regularly offers services that include immunizations, family planning, WIC (Women, Infants and Children) clinics, physical assessments, community health screenings, a Healthy Start program for children up to 2, and advice on international travel.
