With small businesses limiting advertising to Facebook, and larger companies still hesitant to advertise online, donations from individuals are an important part of our efforts to keep the Linn County Journal free.

Our advertisers and sponsors have been a great support for us, and we wouldn't be in business without them. If you shop at their stores or use their services, be sure to thank them for their support for the Journal.

Why should some people contribute and others don't? Simple economics. Some people can better afford to voluntarily 'subscribe' while for others, a $60 a year subscription would be an extravagance. Regardless if someone can pay or not, our philosophy is that everyone should have access to objective and important news.

Here are the ways to donate:

• By credit card or PayPal
We use PayPal for our donations and online payments for ads. It is a secure method of donating. We have people who choose to donate on a monthly basis, from $5 to as much as $20 monthly, or make a one-time donation of the amount of your choice. PayPal allows you to choose any amount you wish to contribute and whether it is a regular donation or a one-time gift. • Larger donations / corporate donations
We have been lucky to have some individuals and businesses give us substantial donations over the past four years. If you or your company wants to make a donation without advertising, the Kansas Press Association has a foundation that can accept tax-deductible donations and pass the proceeds on to members.
