Brief: 911 call system down briefly on Monday morning

Updated: Jun 13, 2024

MOUND CITY – On Monday morning, June 10, the entire regional 911 system supported by the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) malfunctioned, and that included the emergency phone system for Linn County.

Linn County Sheriff Kevin Friend said the system was restored before 9 a.m. and was functioning normally. No reason has been given for the outage.

Friend said that one 911 call came into the county dispatch system during that time, and while dispatchers could see the call, they could not answer it. They were, however, able to return the call on a sheriff's office administrative line and offer service to the caller.
