November 28, 1947 — November 7, 2023 Ottawa, Kansas

Edward Lee "Butch" Samyn, age 75, Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023. He was born on November 28, 1947, in Olathe, Kansas, the son of Edward and Mary Loretta Soetaert Samyn.


He provided food for others his entire life, working as a farmer and gardener. He was involved in taking produce to a market for over 57 years, beginning in Kansas City, then to Overland Park, and finally Ottawa. He was united in marriage to Deborah Gravino on June 20, 1970. Ed's family was the priority in his life followed by his love of the land.


He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Kayden; and two brothers, Albert and Hubert. Ed is survived by his wife, Debbie; a son, Dale Samyn; a sister, Joanna Graves and Rex Wilcox; three grandsons, Ethan, Miles, and Landyn; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2023, at the Curry Cemetery near Mound City, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until departure for the cemetery at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to Children's Mercy Hospital Oncology, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, P. O. Box J, Mound City, Kansas 66056.
