PLEASANTON – Four Pleasanton High School seniors have been awarded the Ray Family Scholarship for the 2025 school year.

Those seniors include Holley Coffman, Shiloh Skipper, Hayden Johnson and Rees Chapman. The Ray Family Scholarship is based on academic achievement, and those who receive the scholarships are selected by the Pleasanton USD 344 school board.

Before this year, the scholarship was awarded to two seniors. However, this year it was expanded to four students for a couple of reason, according to Robert Noland, PHS guidance counselor.

The scholarship was a full ride award, providing for four years of tuition and housing. However, because some previous grantees did not attend school their full four years, the scholarship committee made the unused money available this year for additional scholarships, he said.

The committee also made the scholarship a two-year grant, Noland said. However, students can apply for additional years if their academic achievement warrants the extension.

The scholarship is named for former Pleasanton residents Don and Betty Ray This is the sixth year the scholarship has been awarded from the fund that was initially set up with about $4 million from the Rays’ estate.
