LA CYGNE – The city of La Cygne is hosting an open house on Wednesday, April 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the La Cygne Library. Dubbed “Build Your City,” the open house will feature the draft of the city’s comprehensive plan.

Members of the city planning and zoning committee will be on hand to explain the plan and take comments and suggestions. A copy of the plan can be found on the city’s website or by clicking on this link.

Representatives from other city departments will be on hand to answer questions as well. That includes representatives from the codes department, police force, public works and city hall. Also on hand will be Mayor Debra Wilson and members of the city council.

The comprehensive plan is the work of the city's planning and zoning committee with the assistance from representatives of the Institute for Building Technology and Safety (ITBS). The draft plan also includes some input from a community workshop last year, and it lays out a vision of La Cygne 20 years in the future.

The plan's vision statement includes plans for the city having:

  • A thriving local economy;

  • Efficient and complete public infrastructure;

  • Exciting and inviting places for families to live, work, and play;

  • Usable and well-organized land use ordinances, and

  • Equitably shared benefits and burdens of development.

The plan looks at:

  • Land use and growth

  • Economic development

  • Housing

  • Quality of life, and

  • Infrastructure.
