May 19, 1954 — October 6, 2023

Wilbur Alan Armstrong, 69, of La Cygne, Kansas, died Friday, October 6, 2023, at his home. Wilbur was born May 19, 1954, to Harry Lee and Emma Darlene Hoaglan Armstrong in Fort Scott, Kansas. He spent his growing and adult years living in La Cygne, Kansas.

He graduated from Prairie View High School in 1972 and married Roselynn Grace Widner on June 16, 1973 in La Cygne. They had three children, Jeremy, Jennifer, and Jared.

In his early adult years, Wilbur worked at Stainbrook’s Wholesale until he started working for KCP&L in 1976. He worked at the La Cygne generating plant until his retirement in December 2018.

During his years at KCP&L he went through their welder apprenticeship program and in later years served as a union representative in the program for young interns. He was a member of the IBEW.

Wilbur really enjoyed spending time with his kids. If we had to add up all the hours spent at the ball fields it would probably amount to a year or more.

The family also loved to go camping and fishing at Roaring River State Park. Wilbur was one of the top fishermen of the family.

Those of his family still surviving include his children, Jeremy of Booneville, Missouri; Jennifer of Butler, Missouri; and Jared and wife Lindsey of Eudora, Kansas. Also surviving are his mother, Darlene Peek: sister Darla Armstrong; sister, Kathy Waldmer and husband Mike; and brother, Dean Armstrong.

Wilbur also has step-sisters Judy Wilson, Betsy Dunkin, and Katie Fraizer; step-brothers Ed Peek and wife, Monica; Roger Peek and wife, Brenda; and John Sapp and wife Michelle. Wilbur’s father, Harry Lee Armstrong, preceded him in death.

A memorial service for Wilbur will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Schneider Funeral Homes & Crematory, LaCygne Chapel. Inurnment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery, La Cygne. Visitation will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions to Calvary Baptist Church in care of Schneider Funeral Home, PO Box 304, La Cygne, Kansas 66040.
