Billie (Bill) Lee Dick

April 9, 1929 — February 2, 2026
Olathe, Kansas

Billie (Bill) Lee Dick, died peacefully Monday night, Feb. 2, at the Good Samaritan Society facility in Olathe, KS. He was 96.


Bill was born April 9, 1929, to Dale and Beulah (Carpenter) Dick in Ottawa, KS. After graduating from high school, he helped his father on the family’s farm in Perry, KS, and learned about electrical wiring before enlisting into the United States Navy on Nov. 12, 1948.


After basic training, Bill spent six weeks learning to be a Motion Picture Operator at the Navy Training Center in San Diego, CA. He then served on the USS Hollister and the USS Bushnell in Korea where he received the Good Conduct Medal and the Korean Service Medal. Bill was honorably discharged from the Navy Nov. 10, 1952 in Key West, FL.


Prior to his discharge, Bill married Carol Stansbury on June 16, 1952, in Ottawa, KS. They had three children: David, Martha and Melinda.


After leaving the Navy, Bill began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring after 34 years of service.


On May 13, 1975, Bill married Lena Wisecarver in Ottawa, KS. They resided in Olathe, KS, before moving to Mound City, KS, where they spent the next 30-plus years becoming active in the community and in the First Baptist Church. They remained married until Lena’s death in August 2024.


Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Lena, his parents Beulah and Dale, and son David. Survivors include daughters Martha McMillen and Melinda Ulses, step-daughters Terri Kurtz and Janet Wisecarver, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the Mound City First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Private Interment will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday in the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Mound City First Baptist Church and may be sent in care of the Schneider Funeral Home P.O. Box J Mound City, Kansas 66056.
