On Friday, Sept. 12, Central Heights Vikings came to Pleasanton hoping to spoil any chance for Pleasanton to gain a win. The Blu-Jays had other thoughts in mind. The showdown began.

Central Heights had trouble all night gaining yards against Pleasanton’s tough defense. Pleasanton’s defense was led by the front line of seniors Lincoln Baldwin and Brayden Reeves, juniors Elijah Lindo and Kyle Coen, and sophomore Owen Miller.

Every time the Vikings gained a first down, this line became more aggressive and prevented them from proceeding much further. They also forced a fumble as Central Heights was reaching the goal line and stopped their attempt to score a second touchdown.

After Pleasanton had punted to Central Heights at one point, the Vikings were backed into their own 1-yard line. Pleasanton’s tough line forced a safety that helped Pleasanton maintain their lead.

Also, when Central Heights had a punt go bad by popping it straight up, Owen Miller got under the ball and recovered it before Central Heights could react. Owen ran for Pleasanton’s second touchdown. This allowed the Pleasanton offense to have a good night.

Led by senior Kamden Staten at quarterback, the offense had several good drives. Kamden’s main receivers were seniors Mario Davis and Gage McGinnis. These three teamed up for several long pass plays that kept Central Heights running to keep up.

Along with the passing, sophomore Hayden Mell would plough through the middle to help sustain many drives or help gain a few final yards.

Staton went to the air for 198 yards including two touchdowns. Davis was leading receiver with 97 yards and one touchdown.

Pleasanton displayed a toughness throughout the evening on offense and defense.  They also had several good plays to keep drives going and score. Final score: Blu-Jays 30, Central Heights 7.

The Blu-Jays travel to Council Grove on Saturday to take on Salina Sacred Heart in a rare day game. Kickoff is at 11 a.m.
