GIRARD – Jayhawk-Linn senior Dillon Champlin punched his ticket to the state 2A cross country championship by taking 10th place in the regional race at Girard on Saturday, Oct. 21. He will go on to compete in the state race at Wamego this Saturday, Oct. 28.

Champlin completed the 5,000-meter course with a time of 17:40.03 – a personal record. The top 10 runners qualify to run at the state meet.

Junior Simon Shillito placed 16th out of 68 runners, and his brother, freshman Louis Shillito, placed 20th.

The performance by the Jayhawk boys comes on the heals of Champlin taking the Three Rivers League championship at same course the week before on Oct. 12. Simon Shillito placed third and Louis Shillito was fifth in that race.

“They all ran well, but Simon and Louis came up slightly short,” Jayhawk head coach Shayla Long said.

In the girls’ regional, junior Brylee Doleshal placed 22nd in a field of 59 runners with a time of 23:17.36. Her teammate, Adison Randall placed 42nd.

Doleshal placed sixth in the Three Rivers League varsity meet as well.
