MOUND CITY – The selection convention to choose a replacement for Linn County Clerk David Lamb is scheduled for 2 p.m. this Sunday, Feb. 2, at the Bunker Hill Community Center at Sixth and Main streets in Mound City.

The convention, held by the Linn County Republican Central Committee, will give people who would like to be considered a replacement for Lamb to present their experience and make their case to the committee. The public is invited to attend this portion of the convention.

After the candidates have each had the opportunity to present their qualifications, members of the committee are expected to retire into a closed-door session to decide which candidate they want to appoint.

After the committee decides on a candidate, the name of that individual will be forwarded to Gov. Laura Kelly for her approval. The winning candidate will serve a two-year term, and that seat will be up for election in November 2026.

Lamb informed the committee he intended to step down from the post after the election last November. The only person on the ballot, Lamb was easily re-elected to the post he has held for 20 years, however, he officially tendered his resignation on Jan. 13 shortly after he was sworn in for another term.

Lamb is going to work part-time for K-CAMP, a self-insurance pool for local governments in Kansas.

A reception for Lamb is set for Friday, Jan. 31, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the commission room at the Courthouse Annex. The public is invited.
