County clerk posts notification of errors on real estate tax statements

Journal staff report

MOUND CITY – Linn County Clerk Chasity Ware this week posted on the county website that the 2025 real estate tax statements sent out in early December contain incorrect information about the total acres that were being taxed.

Only agricultural acres were included in the total acres on the tax bill, she said in a notice. “All ‘Vacant, Homesite or Other’ Acres were excluded.”

Despite the discrepancy in the acre totals, however, the amount owed on the tax bill is accurate and will not change, she said.

County Clerk’s office staff is working to determine if the error was a system data error or a human error, she said.

“We sincerely apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your patience as we work to resolve the matter,” she said.
