MOUND CITY – Next Monday, June 2, at noon is the deadline for residents who want to file as a candidate for city council posts, school board seats or the two open board member seats on the Marais des Cygne Extension Council.

People who are interested in running should have their applications filed at the Linn County Clerk’s office.

There is a $20 filing fee for all of the positions, and people interested in running can pick up an information packet including filing papers at the County Clerk’s office in the courthouse.

If there are too many candidates for any one race, there will be a primary for that seat on Aug. 5 to narrow down the field of candidates. Otherwise, all of the candidates will be on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.

Here are the mayoral and city council seats that will be up for election:

Blue Mound – Three city council posts are up for election.

La Cygne – Three city council posts are up for election. Posts are currently held by Thomas Capp, David Brenneman and Keith Stoker.

Linn Valley – Mayor’s seat and two city council seats. The current mayor is Lewis Donalson, and the council seats up for election are currently held by Robert Suppenbach and Michael Hemphill.

Mound City – Three city council seats are up for election. Those posts are currently held by Megan Purvis, Fanchion Shadden and Cody Beckman.

Parker – Three city council posts are to be filled. Those include seats held by Gary Earley, and Kandace Higgins. Because the Parker City clerk has not been available, and because there have been several midterm appointments, the identity of the person now in the third seat is not known.

Pleasanton – Three city council posts are up for grabs. Those seats are currently held by Aaron Portman, Rochelle Schreckhise and Kimberly Herring.

Prescott – The mayor and two city council seats are up for election. The current mayor is Kevin Wood, and the current council members whose seats will be up for election are Ron Roberts and John Maloney.

School board posts that are up for election include:

Jayhawk USD 346 – Board seats from district Nos. 4, 5 and 6. Currently holding those posts are Tracy Springer for District 4, Matt Higgins for District 5 and Kitty Rhynerson for District 6.

Pleasanton USD 344 – All of the board members are at-large. Board members who seats are up for election include Cindy Inman, Kaye Hardy and Meredith Johnson.

Prairie View USD 362 – Board seats from district Nos. 4, 5 and 6 are up for election. Currently holding those seats are George Nunnemacher for District 4, Rita Boydston for District 5 and Wade Teagarden for District 6. Click here for a link to the district map.

There are two extension council seats open for at-large members from Linn County.
