Fire, ambulance weekly reports for May 4

MOUND CITY – The Linn County Commissioners received reports from the ambulance and fire department services on Monday, May 4.


Interim Fire Chief Brian Shroyer gave the weekly report. The calls were one structure fire, five medical assists, one smoke investigation, one vehicle fire, two motor vehicle accidents,  and two crash detections for a total of 12 calls.


Shroyer said that he would like to talk about Randy Hegwald’s helmet. Hegwald resigned his post last month.


“When chiefs have left in the past, we’ve let them take their helmet with them,” said Shroyer. “I would like to ask the commission to give him his old helmet.”


Commissioner Jim Johnson said that the did not have an issue with it. “We gave Doug his,” said Johnson, referring to former fire chief Doug Barlet.


Commissioner Jason Hightower agreed.                                                                                                                                                                                                                  

American Medical Response (AMR) operations manager Dawn Brooks gave the  report from April 26 through May 3 which showed there had been a total of 46 calls resulting in 16 transports. The average response time is 13 minutes 52 seconds. The calls by city were:


  • Blue Mound, 2 calls, 1 transport

  • Centerville, 0 calls, 0 transports

  • Fulton, 0 calls, 0 transports

  • Greeley, 0 calls, 0 transports

  • La Cygne, 15 calls, 5 transports

  • Fontana, 0 calls, 0 transport

  • Lane, 0 calls, 0 transports

  • Linn Valley, 0 calls, 0 transports

  • Mapleton, 0 calls, 0 transports

  • Rich Hill, 0 calls, 0 transports

  • Mound City, 13 calls, 6 transports

  • Parker, 0 calls, 0 transports

  • Pleasanton 16 calls, 4 transports

  • Prescott, 0 calls,  0 transports


Response numbers and times for this time period, by commission district, are:

District 1 – 15 responses, 5 transports, 11 minutes 21 seconds average response time

District 2 – 17 responses, 4 transports, 10 minutes 8 seconds average response time
