Former Parker resident killed in head-on crash on U.S. 169

PAOLA – A former Parker resident was one of two people killed in a head-on crash in the early morning hours of Thursday, Aug. 10, on U.S. Highway 169 in Miami County.


Paula E. Weers, a 49-year-old from Spring Hill and a former Parker resident, was killed in the accident along with Carolyn J. Nuckles, 58, of Garnett. Both women were the sole occupants of the two vehicles, according to the accident report.


According to members of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and the Paola Police Department, which were both dispatched to the scene shortly after 4 a.m., one of the vehicles was northbound in the southbound lane and the other was southbound in the southbound lane when the collision occurred just south of the 327th Street interchange.


The accident continues to be under investigation.
