Joe Stephen Teagarden, age 72, La Cygne, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 15, 2023.  He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on August 15, 1951, the son of Carl and Frances Good Teagarden.  He was in the last graduating class of La Cygne Rural High School.  He then attended Kansas State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Animal Science degree. 


While attending K-State he met his future wife, Vicki Leister.  The two were united in marriage on August 19, 1972, in Salina, Kansas.  Joe worked as a rural postal carrier for over thirty years.  He also enjoyed farming and raising cattle.  He was a talented craftsman, stamping and tooling many types of leather items.  Joe was very involved in First Lutheran Church in Paola, Kansas, having served as an elder and singing in the choir.


He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Shawn Teagarden on November 14, 2019; and a brother, Glenn Ray Teagarden on June 8, 1977.  Joe is survived by his wife, Vicki; a son, Scott Teagarden and wife Baylee; and six grandchildren, Wesley, Ellie, Carter, Cooper, Ben, and Jordan. 

 

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Paola.  Burial will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 21, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory La Cygne Chapel.  Memorial contributions are suggested to First Lutheran Church, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, P.O.
