Justice Center passes fire inspection; jailer hired as SRO

MOUND CITY – Linn County Sheriff Kevin Friend met with the Linn County Commissioners on Monday, March 20. Friend reported that the Justice Center had a Kansas State Fire Marshal inspection the past week and there were no deficiencies.

He told them that K-Camp, the counties risk assessment insurance, did an inspection this past week and they will be making a report to send to County Clerk David Lamb as to the condition of the building and other factors for the risk assessment there.

Friend told the commissioners that Justin Post, who has worked in the jail for past few years, came out of the jail today and is back in the school resource officer (SRO) program. He is currently in training and will be going to the academy probably within the next month or so.

Commission Chair Danny McCullough asked Friend if he would he have to hire another bailiff with both courtrooms operating now,.

Friend said that he is assessing that and it could be a possibility in 2024. He said that the two days or so that the courts are both open during the week, there is one bailiff at the door and one that floats back and forth between the courtrooms. Friend said that they probably would know more by June as the courts get busier.
