La Cygne police execute drug search warrant on house near school, suspect in custody

LA CYGNE – On Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers with the La Cygne Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence located at 702 E. Chestnut St. in La Cygne

During the search, officers seized approximately 17.5 grams of methamphetamine, along with multiple items of drug paraphernalia consistent with the sale and use of illicit narcotics, as well as marijuana and THC products.
This operation occurred outside of school hours and was conducted in coordination with school officials to ensure there were no after-school programs or activities taking place at the time.
As a result of the investigation, 48-year-old Clark L. Montgomery Jr. was taken into custody and transported to the Linn County jail. He remains in custody with bond set at $250,000.
He is is charged with alleged possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, 3.5 - 100 grams, within 1,000 feet of a school; possession of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
