Linn County is represented by no less than three big-time pulling tractors with talented drivers in the highly competitive Outlaw Pulling Association, the Midwest premier pulling league.
The Outlaw Association Approved Truck and Tractor Pull at the Linn County Fair, Mound City, KS is set for Sunday, Aug 4. at 7 p.m.
The Paddock Farms, Mound City, pulls two tractors in the Limited Pro Stock .
The father/son/daughter team of Brent, Tyler (22) and Megan (20) Paddock, Mound City,
compete in the Limited Pro Stock division with tractors named “In Too Deep” and “Digging Deep Deere.” Points in the standing go to the tractor, so the drivers can substitute for each other.
Kyle Carstens, Parker, competes in the Pro Stock division on the tractor “Lotta Green.”
The primary difference between the Limited Pro Stock and Pro Stock classes is engine size allowed (640 vs. 680 cubic inches) and pulling weight allowed (9500 pounds vs. 10,000 pounds).
Carstens is off to a strong start this pulling season. At the midpoint of the pulling year (11 ‘hooks’ down, 11 to go), Carstens and “Lotta Green” are in first place in the Pro Stock race.
Carstens won Platte City, Mo., last week and was second at four other pulls earlier: Wayne, Neb.; Ravena, Neb.; Warrensburg, and Montgomery City, Mo.
Meanwhile, the Paddock family has struggled in the early part of the 2024 season admits Brent Paddock. “We missed a few pulls during wheat harvest, and we have had a hard time getting both tractors ‘set’ just right, so we are down in the season standings. We were running out of power at the three-quarter mark down the pulling track.”
Local fans hope the Paddock team has solved its power problems. Brent placed second at Platte City, Mo., on Saturday, July 27, with “Diggin Deep Deere,” and Tyler was a disappointing 10th with “In Too Deep”, both in the Limited Pro Stock class.
After some more ‘fine tuning’ on Tyler’s tractor, the Paddock tractors placed first and third at Arlington, Neb. on July 30.
“We are the only pull scheduled for Sunday, Aug 4, so classes will be full. Mound City will host truck and tractor pulling teams from Missouri, Iowa, Texas, Nebraska and South Dakota. Make plans to be here, all the Big Machines will put on another great pull at our fair,” said Brent Paddock, tractor pull chairman.
